I have seen some decision in blog land about Jeremiah 10 referring to Christmas trees.

Before I go farther, let me state for the record, I think Christmas is way too commercialized. I think there is too much rush and impoliteness. I think there is too much emphasis placed on gifts and too high of expectations for the season.

NOW. Jeremiah 10 is talking about the carving of idols. Axe can be translated as chisel. Christmas trees did not come along until a lot later and in northern Europe. But, the carving of idols and decorated them with gold and silver was very popular during this time.

I agree that there are a lot of pagan traditions incorporated in Christmas. I agree that Jesus was not born in December, but probably in October. I agree that mistletoe has nothing to do with anything nor do we hang it. I agree that Santa takes the emphasis off Christ and His ultimate gift. I AGREE!!!!!!!!

But, I also believe that we as believers can take that which was meant for evil and make it good. Why do unbelievers work so hard to get people to say "Seasons Greetings"? Why do unbelievers work so hard to get rid of manger scenes? Because they even recognize that we have made Christmas christian.

Now, we still need to be careful. We need to bring it down a notch and get real. Our kids do not need a $1000.00 worth of junk. People need clean water. We do not need to spend a fortune on decorations, etc. People need a meal a day. We do not need to place such unrealistic expectations on each other. People need JESUS!!!!

Lets bring it back to what I know we intended it to be. About Jesus and His gift.
