Sarah and her Sewing

Sarah has been working on a rag quilt for Etsy. Hannah brought up her lighting to take some pictures of the progress. Sometimes irritating Sarah while she was working!!

OOPS!! Sarah stuck herself while Hannah was trying to take pictures.

Back to work girlfriend, this ain't no union job! Geez, these kids. If you're not bleeding from the head, KEEP WORKING!!!

That's my girl!! She is a hard worker!




And the finished product!!!! Sarah is getting very talented. I am so proud of her!

Here are the coffee sleeves we have made so far. We have a lot of ideas we need to pull together and see if we can produce. Also we need to work on how to display them.

We were sewing our cup sleeves this evening and the girls got crazy. So, they decided to make 'Pillow Creatures'. Hayden even got into it and made himself one named Woodrow. I have to admit they are kinda cute in a weird way.

We did get several cup sleeves done and they are looking really good. Hannah has been hand stitching different designs on felt and then sewing them onto the sleeves. Sarah stitched a heart that was adorable.

Then Hannah made Molasses Cookies!! They were tasty. This is the picture she will post on her blog Honey and Jam. She takes awesome pictures, if I do say so myself, being her mother and all.

New Sewing Project, Etc.

The girls and I are working on a new sewing project. Eco-Coffee sleeves for disposable coffee cups. Hannah did the stitching and Sarah did the sewing of the sleeve. We are hoping some local stores will carry them.

We are still working on bread making, but the lady we were selling to just can't buy enough to make the trip worth our time. We hope to take samples to a local coffee shop soon. This would be much closer for us and they can probably purchase in larger volume.

William's business will be shut down now until end of February so we would like to find some sources of income. He usually does not work from November or December until end of February. It is something we are accustom to, but it is more difficult financially since the economy has taken a dive. The joke is we no longer have a 401k, we have a .001!!! Unfortunately, it isn't a joke. :(

But, God is still God and it will be all right.





Here is the Christmas card wreath we made from old cards. It took some time, but it was cheap and cute! We are all about cheap and cute.

Sewing and Cussing

We got the bodice connected to the skirt, sort of.

But,(big but here) the skirt is not lined up right! That is because we did not transfer the little marks on the pattern when we were cutting out the material that helps you line up your top and bottom. (no sick jokes, ok?!) My top and bottom haven't been lined up for a LOOONNNG time. We are learning and I forgot to tell Sarah to transfer the markings, so it is MY fault.

Of course, that is not the only problem. We still have to deal with the collar; which I can't even face yet. Nor have we worked on the trim for bodice. Oh good grief! It's all good!!

Ok, we do not cuss in this household, but I have thought about taking up some vice because of this learning curve.

Nah, we'll make it.

Sewing Again

The girls sewed last night and created another apron. They are crazy about sewing and that makes this momma very happy. They talk and work and sometimes break into song. That makes me even happier and I can forget the less cordial times they have with each other!!!

NOTE the nice pleats on the front. Hannah pinned them and Sarah sewed it. I am very proud of them. They are sewing on an old machine that takes longer to fix than it does to sew something. If I had a dime for the number of times the bobbin has to be taken out and put back in. Good grief...

Sewing Lessons

The girls have shown a desire to learn to sew. My mom wasn't very domestic except for cleaning and caring for me, so I never learned myself. It is exciting to see my girls wanting to learn more domestic skills. It also gives me a good excuse to learn something new.

Since we cook and bake alot, we decided to start with aprons, which are always in short supply around our house. This will allow them to work with simple patterns and straight stitches.

So off we went to the Wal-i hate this store-Mart to get material, thread and a pattern. They couldn't wait, so last night they started and completed an apron.

Both Sarah and Hannah are fans of 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Sense and Sensibility' so their taste in fabric design runs on the toile side.

Sewing Class!

We received an email two days ago requesting help for a woman that recently had a stroke. She does craft shows and needed help completing some of her inventory. Her husband is self employed and they need her income from a big show coming up.

The girls and I had just been talking about how the church should always come to the aid of other believers in need. Whether it is to finish a job, make a repair, etc. and whether you know them or not. Well, God just said, "Put it into action"! So I gave the lady a call, we went over and picked up a bunch of simple sewing.

I called Jan, a great friend and seamstress. She graciously agreed to come over and help. Perfect opportunity to teach Sarah some basic sewing. My mother never taught me and I want my girls to know something about sewing.

So here are Sarah and Jan working away making Princess Tiaras! I was the string cutter; I know and I know, but somebody had to do it.

Of course, as you can see, I cut myself. Twice.

At least I bleed well. My momma always said "if you gonna do it, do it well"!!! Oh and Sarah, she picked up on sewing like a dog picks up a bone!!
